Dog Play 101

Alot of folks that bring dogs to our kennel are older or not able to keep up with the very active dogs that they have chosen.

Here are a few tips that I have found work well to exercise that canine physically or mentally.

·      Chuck-it!  A chuck-it is a tool for throwing a ball much farther than I personally ever thought I could throw a ball. A 45 minute chuck-it session can really get a dog moving. Great for older folks especially as we get to stand in 1 spot!

·      4 wheeling.  Alot of us out here in the country regularly take our 4 wheelers out an about.  This is a great opportunity for bowser online or offline to come along.

·      Indoor agility.  If your dog is smaller or you have much room or a covered area a few agility jumps can be a life saver when you come home and doggie is rarin' to go.

·      Shopping.  I don't know about you but a day of power shopping really takes it out of me.  LOTS of local stores encourage dogs to come in and shop.  Take your pup and enjoy a great day of shopping and maybe a latte together.

·      Swimming.  Alot of dogs LOVE the water.  A quick trip to the
river or lake makes for alot of fun and excellent exercise.

·      Look Right Look Left!  Teaching a dog to look right and look left is a great mental exercise and can be a handy tool if you work the dog.  These tricks are great to wear a dog out on a rainy day. Google and YouTube have alot of instruction for this great trick.

·      Name that toy.  You can teach your dog to name the toys in his toybox and teach him to fetch a particular item.  It really works his brain and keeps it as agile as his body.

  1. I don't have a dog. Any times for playing with cats and getting them to exercise because I have a couple of fatties. :P
